Embassy Track — India

The Embassy Track, start to finish

The Embassy Track routes your application through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India. You choose up to three universities, pass an Indian screening and interview, then a Korea-side NIIED round, then university admission.

Who runs what

  • NIIED — publishes the guideline, sets India's quota, runs the second round and announces final selections
  • Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India — publishes the India notice, receives documents, runs the first round and the interview, recommends candidates
  • Korean Education Centre in India — supports outreach, information sessions and applicant queries
  • Host universities — evaluate the forwarded applications and issue admission decisions in the third round

Application flow for Indian applicants

  1. 1

    Announcement

NIIED publishes the guideline; the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India publishes the India-specific notice, deadline and submission address.

  2. 2

    Prepare & legalise documents

Transcripts, degree certificates, birth certificate, parent nationality proof, SOP, study plan, recommendations, medical form — notarised, apostilled and translated where required.

  3. 3

    Submission to the Embassy

Submit the required number of original and copy sets to the Embassy / Korean Education Centre in India by the stated deadline, in the stated order, with the checklist on top.

  4. 4

    First round — Embassy screening

Document screening against eligibility and completeness. Shortlisted candidates are called for interview.

  5. 5

    Interview in India

Conducted by the Embassy selection panel, usually in English, covering motivation, study plan, knowledge of Korea and your field.

  6. 6

    Embassy recommendation

The Embassy recommends candidates within India's quota to NIIED.

  7. 7

    Second round — NIIED selection

The NIIED Selection Committee evaluates all embassy-recommended candidates from every country and announces second-round passers.

  8. 8

    University admission (third round)

Your documents are forwarded to your three chosen universities. At least one must admit you for the scholarship to be confirmed.

  9. 9

    Final selection announcement

NIIED publishes the final scholar list with the assigned university and language institute.

  10. 10

    Visa and arrival in Korea

Receive the Certificate of Admission, apply for the D-4 or D-2 visa at KVAC in India, and travel to Korea for orientation.

Embassy Track advantages

  • Three university choices instead of one — significantly better odds of an admission offer
  • Competition is limited to Indian applicants in the first round, not the global pool
  • The interview lets you show motivation that documents alone cannot
  • Embassy staff and the Korean Education Centre can clarify India-specific procedures

Embassy Track disadvantages

  • Longer process with three rounds spread across several months
  • Physical or courier submission of full document sets with strict formatting rules
  • Interview required, which some applicants find harder than a paper-only route
  • Quota-bound — India's allocation caps how many candidates advance

You may apply to only one track per cycle. Applying to both the Embassy Track and the University Track disqualifies you.
